New beginnings at Ponteland and George Washington

Two North East clubs have welcomed new managers to start the year – with Tony Clingan joining Ponteland Golf Club and Brian Brodie joining George Washington.

PGA professional Tony arrives in the North East from the south east, where he has held head professional and general manager roles.

“The welcome to Ponteland, and the North East, has been fantastic and I’m excited to get going as the season begins in earnest.

“The golf club is in a strong position and I’m very much looking forward to working closely with course manager Craig Kilgour as he continues to drive the golf course forward along with his dedicated team. Like every club, there are areas we can develop and while I’m keen to continue delivering a first-class service to our membership, we have opportunities to welcome people from outside our membership to play the golf course and experience what a members’ club can offer them as well.

“As well as that, I’m keen to visit some golf clubs, learn more about the golf on offer in the region, and enhance what Ponteland does in-line with what our members expect.”

Meanwhile, Brian has joined the team at George Washington as golf operations manager, having built his career in the Midlands before stints at both Matfen Hall and Longhirst Hall more recently.

“It’s great to be settling into the role at George Washington – a business with a great golf offering which I’m keen to help develop. There are lots of changes going on behind the scenes in terms of systems and structures, and we’re all keen to see the golf course busy once again as soon as the weather turns.

“Working closely with hotel management, the directors, our area general manager and the greenkeeping team, we have lots of exciting things in the pipeline – from potential future investment on the course to enhancing the driving range offering and launching new membership packages. I’m looking forward to helping deliver a great golf offering to members and guests in the months ahead.”
