Malton & Norton rabbits triumph

After two false starts due to the winter weather, Malton & Norton Golf Club finished off a league double in the North East Rabbits Golf Association at Ramside Hall.

With six teams qualifying for the finals of the Rabbits league based on their league standings, the Malton & Norton team were crowned champions with 239 points as Rudding Park snatched the runners-up place from Roseberry Grange with 235 points – the tie decided on the eighth score discarded rule. They finished ahead of the four remaining qualifiers – South Moor, Catterick, Billingham and Roseberry Grange.

In the Rabbits individual championship, just one point separated the top seven golfers as Andy Bishop from Richmond Golf Club was crowned champion with 39 points. Chris Ball (Rudding Park) took the runner-up spot.

The Rabbits league win gave Malton & Norton a Rabbits an Inter league double for the 2017 season – the Inter (handicaps 8-15) team beating runners-up Stocksfield in their final at Woodham last year.

Anthony Blackburn from Ripon City Golf Club beat the leading points scorers from each of the leagues’ clubs to lift the Inter individual title.

The 2018 Finals Days will take place at Ramside Hall on October 6 (Inter) and October 13 (Rabbits). For more information go to nerga.herokuapp.com
