MacGregor Golf honours legendary designer with launch of Toney Penna Tour Forged irons

MacGregor Golf has launched the Toney Penna Tour Forged iron range, paying tribute to one of the most influential club designers in golf history.

Few names are as closely associated with MacGregor as Toney Penna. The visionary designer was responsible for many of the brand’s most iconic clubs, including the original MT irons – the blades that helped define the modern muscle back iron.

Toney was renowned for his uncompromising approach to club design, refusing to put his name on any club he hadn’t personally shaped, tested and approved. The new Toney Penna Tour Forged MB and CB irons honour that legacy, combining classic shaping with modern forging techniques.

Both models are precision forged from premium 1020 carbon steel – producing the soft, responsive feel that better players demand while staying true to Toney’s exacting standards.

The Muscle Back (RRP £399.99) is a player’s iron. Elegant, compact and beautifully balanced, they aim to deliver the precise feedback, shot-making control and workability expected from a forged blade.

The Cavity Back (RRP £349.99) retains the clean appearance and soft forged feel of a player’s iron while introducing additional forgiveness across the face. Designed for golfers seeking greater consistency without sacrificing workability, the CB aims to deliver the confidence of a cavity back with the performance expected from a forged club.

Both models can be customised through the MacGregor Golf website with a wide choice of premium aftermarket shafts. Golfers can also specify shaft lengths, and loft and lie angles.
