Lucas Martin wins his third consecutive North of England Amateur title

Lucas Martin continued his remarkable record in the North of England Amateur as he led the field at Seaton Carew.

Rotherham-based Lucas, who won the event at Selby in 2024 and at Seaton in 2025, topped the leaderboard once again with rounds of 67, 73, 75 and 68 for a one under-par total and a one-shot win over Greg Holmes (Royal Birkdale). Josh Mccartain (Golf at Goodwood) and Tom Hartshorne (Rockliffe) were two shots further back in third place, while Habib Khan (Huddersfield) was fifth with a three over-par total.

“It’s very special to be a three-time winner of this event. It was a bit of a weird feeling when I realised I’d won, it was as a feeling of relief as much as anything else,” said Lucas, who played four rounds in three days at Seaton Carew having represented Yorkshire in the Men’s County Finals and played six rounds in three days just a few days earlier.

“It was a good feeling as well, it’s great when you put that much effort in and get the win,” he added.

“I didn’t put any pressure on myself going into the event, but the idea of winning three times in a row came up throughout the event. I just took each round and each shot one at a time, knowing I wasn’t going to play my absolute best golf every day.

“The 67 on the first day could have been even better, and it was the perfect way to get started. I didn’t play as well on day two or on the morning of the final day as the tiredness started to kick in. Before the last round I changed my jumper, having played rubbish in it a few times, and I made two birdies to start.

“With the wind switching direction and the front nine playing easier than the back, I knew I had to push on. Playing the front in three under-par, having teed off six behind the leaders, was just what I needed. From there, I just kept my head down as I knew it was going to be tough. Shooting level-par on the back with two birdies and two bogeys proved to be just enough.

“Winning at Seaton is always a great feeling and it gives me something to build on as I head into three mini tour Q School events to finish off the season.”
