Some of the region’s best juniors took home titles from the Northumberland County Schools Golf Championships at Ponteland Golf Club – including a hat-trick of titles for Zara Naughton.
Zara, a student at Ponteland Middle School and a member of Matfen Hall, picked up the U18 girls title, U16 girls title and girls nett crown, shooting a one-over par round.
She said: “It was great to win my first schools county championship. My playing partners were fun to play with and pushed me all the way.
“I’ve had a great start to the season in the Leverett Trophy but was disappointed my performance at the Scottish U18s so to bounce back with a win so soon is really nice. I am hoping to continue my good form this summer with a lot more events to come.”
Meanwhile, Kings Priory pupil and Tynemouth Golf Club member Freddie McKenna was crowned U16 boys champion.
Prudhoe High School and Hexham Golf Club member Joseph Robson won the U18 boys title with a four under-par round.
Daniel Gilbraith (Ponteland High School) and Fin Bell (North Gosforth Academy) won the boys nett titles.
