R&A Senior Amateur champion John Kennedy ended his remarkable season by picking up the England Golf Senior Men’s Order of Merit trophy.
John, who made his England debut this year following his wins in the Scottish Senior Men’s Open at Montrose and The R&A Senior Amateur at Walton Heath, led the national points race as Rochester & Cobham Park-based Danny Holmes finished second.
Following his two wins on the international stage, John earned invitations to compete in The Senior Open and the US Senior Amateur, then represented England in the European Senior Men’s Team Championship and the Home Internationals.
Consett & District-based John said: “Winning the order of merit was something that I didn’t think would be possible as I’m still working and therefore can only play in a few events each year. Winning it is a fantastic feeling as I know how good the people are who play in the events. I’m very proud to have finished the year at the top of the table.
“There have been so many standout moments this season. Winning the Scottish, with my brother on the bag and a few of my England teammates standing behind the 18th green to cheer me on, was very special. I didn’t think anything could beat that feeling until I managed to win the British Senior Amateur with my partner, Louise, on the bag. Louise was more nervous than me and when we eventually walked off the 18th hole as champions, being able to share that moment with her was very special.
“My target for 2026 remains exactly the same as 2025 – to try to make the England team at the end of the season. Representing England has always been my ambition and making the team this year is one thing I’m extremely proud of. That will remain my ambition for as long as I keep playing.
“I’ve loved getting to know all the England squad members, they’re a great bunch of people who are so supportive of everyone involved with the squad. England team success in 2026 would be the icing on the cake.”
