Charlotte Naughton named in England Girls’ squad

England Golf has confirmed its Boys’ and Girls’ squads for the 2023/24 season – with Ponteland’s Charlotte Naughton included in the national Girls’ squad for the first time.

Twelve players have been rewarded for their excellent form over the past year, with all six of the boys joining the national team for the first time as five girls make their debuts.

The 12 players will be part of six England Golf coaching sessions and will receive one-to-one support from the England Golf coaching team as well as featuring in competitive tournaments in early 2024.

Charlotte, 15, will be joined in the squad by Sadie Adams (Lancashire), Annabel Peaford (Surrey), Matilde Santilli (Surrey), Chloe Tarbard (Norfolk) and Amelia Wan (Nottinghamshire).

Charlotte won the North of England U16 Girls Championship at Pannal this summer and enjoyed a top-10 finish at the English U16 Girls. She also represented England U16s in matches against Spain and Switzerland.

Becca Hembrough, England Golf’s performance manager for women’s golf, said: “Five players are new to the national squad, all coming from their respective regional squads following strong performances across a wide number of U18 and age-group events this year. Amelia is coming into her third year in the programme and, as well as continuing to work hard on her game, she will naturally be a great leader within this group in how she goes about her business.

“Within the national girls’ programme, we continue the foundations set by the regional programme, focusing on the five pillars of performance and working with the players’ home teams to build, challenge and progress in their development. The players get access to world-class coaches James Austin (sport psychologist), Dr Dan Coughlan (S&C and physio), Nick Soto (putting) and Steve Robinson (national women’s coach). They also receive support from Amy O’Donnell (nutritionist) and Dr Kelly McNulty (female health expert).

“We look forward to welcoming the new National Girls’ Lead Coach following recruitment this month to complete the team that will support these players and teams in 2023/24. The top-class facilities at our disposal at the National Golf Centre and Quinta do Lago provide an excellent environment to do what we do best, and then we layer in strong competitive opportunities as a key piece of the development journey.”

Meanwhile, the Boys’ squad will include Oliver Baker (Essex), Ben Bolton (Staffordshire), Daniel Hayes (Cheshire), Monty Holcombe (Surrey), Drew Sykes (Sussex) and Oliver Toyer (Cambridgeshire).
