Centenary celebrations underway at Sand Moor

The centenary celebrations at Sand Moor Golf Club got underway on March 20.

As part of this year’s events, a Centenary Drive In was organised for Sunday March 29, with teams competing over 13 holes as the club’s centenary captain, Paul Cornish, began his year in office.

Following the competition, a watercolour by artist Jonothan Potter was unveiled in the clubhouse. The specially commissioned piece depicts the eighth hole at Sand Moor – a challenging par three set in beautiful surroundings with views of Eccup Reservoir.

The footpath that crosses the hole was originally the main route to Harrogate, prior to the construction of the reservoir, and the painting has been named Old Turnpike Road to reflect this piece of the club’s history.

Limited edition prints are available to purchase from the club’s office, and further events to mark 100 years of golf at Sand Moor will take place throughout the coming year.
