Throughout 2024, the Northumberland County Veteran Ladies Golf Association is celebrating its 75th anniversary with regular and special on-course events, and an Anniversary Lunch in September.
Following an informal meeting in 1949 between women from five clubs – Hexham, Alnmouth, City of Newcastle, Ponteland and Morpeth – the association’s first formal meeting was held in October 1949 with representatives from 12 clubs.
By July the following year, the association had 55 members. Today its membership is more than 650, representing clubs across the county, and the NCVLGA host six regular events per year.
The first of two special anniversary events took place at Alnmouth in July, with 180 players taking part in the 75th Anniversary Waltz. The team of Delwyn Graham, Elaine Snowdon, Helen McClery and Pam Henderson won the event and took home prosecco and commemorative glasses.
Meanwhile, the association’s Anniversary Lunch will bring together active and former players at the Vertu Eagles Arena on Wednesday September 25. The event will celebrate the officials and players who have supported the success of the NCVLGA with lunch, entertainment, and a chance to look back at the 75 years of golfing stories.
