Busy year ahead for Yorkshire’s PGA professionals

The PGA in Yorkshire announces its schedule of order of merit events and pro ams for 2026, while Gareth Davies becomes captain of the association for a second time

A busy programme of PGA in Yorkshire pro ams and professional tournaments offering points towards the season-long order of merit is underway.

This year’s PGA schedule features 36 events and a combined prize fund of more than £125,000. As well as pro ams hosted by clubs across the county there are five order of merit events – the Yorkshire Masters on May 11 at York, the Yorkshire Open at Lees Hall on June 15, the Yorkshire Championship at Hull on July 7, the Dawn Wilson Charity Pro Am at Forest Park on September 15, and the Matchplay Championship which takes place throughout the season.

The leading two players in this year’s points race are once again set to earn the chance to compete in a tournament in Bermuda, with the details of the prize to be announced soon.

“I’m delighted with the 2026 schedule,” said PGA in Yorkshire secretary Andrew Smith. “With more pro ams and additional sponsorship money for several events, the players will be competing for more than £125,000 this season, which is fantastic.

“Given the success of last year’s trip to Bermuda for the top two in the order of merit, we’ve got a real buzz around this year’s tournaments and I know there are a lot of players keen to compete this season. We’ve got good signups for the pro ams too, and the players have great opportunities to play regularly for strong prize funds, which is a key priority for our association.

“Our events are made possible because of the support we have from host clubs and professionals, and we can’t thank every club which welcomes us enough for their hospitality and support. Here’s looking forward to a competitive season with some great golf.”

Meanwhile, Lees Hall-based Michael Ramsden has become chairman of the association, and Abbeydale Golf Club-based Gareth Davies has taken up the role of captain.

Gareth, who served as captain in 2020 when the Covid pandemic heavily impacted the season, said: “It’s brilliant to have been asked to captain the PGA in Yorkshire again. We’ve got a forward-looking committee and it’s great to be involved with the team shaping our association. We’re also lucky to have so many events and I’m very keen to play as much as I can this season and catch up with my peers regularly. I’m sure the Abbeydale Pro Am will be a great highlight, and with a few national events in the diary too, I’m excited for the year ahead.”
