Bishop Auckland team wins Durham title

Bishop Auckland’s three-man team is heading to the English Men’s Champion Club final after topping the leaderboard in the Durham Clubs Championship at Houghton-le-Spring.

On a difficult day for scoring, the Bishop team’s 36-hole total of 453 (21 over-par) gave them a six-shot victory over the teams from Boldon and Durham City.

James Glenn shot rounds of 75 and 73 as John Howarth shot 71 and 76, and Craig Wren shot 78 and 80 as the Bishop team went one better than their runner-up finish last season and booked their trip to Stanton on the Wolds for the national final on September 21-22.

Meanwhile, Brancepeth Castle’s Daniel Fox had the best individual score in the event with a level-par total of 144 (71-73).
