Amy Burton wins US Kids Golf European Championship title

Wynyard’s Amy Burton picked up a European title in the Girls’ 13-14 category of the 14th annual US Kids Golf European Championship in East Lothian.

Amy, who holds a scratch handicap and is part of the England Golf Regional Squad, posted rounds of 71, 66 and 70 for a nine under-par total at The Musselburgh Golf Club and a six-shot win over India’s Mahreen Bhatia.

The US Kids Golf European Championship brings together young golfers aged 5-18 each year at clubs across East Lothian to compete in nine boys’ age groups and seven girls’ age groups. The leading players in these events then head to the US Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst.

Meanwhile, Bishop Auckland’s Callum Brown finished in second place in the boys 15-18 category, two shots behind winner Paul Fletcher, who led the field with a level par total of 216 for three rounds.
