Five of our region’s golf clubs are celebrating their 125th anniversaries in 2017 with Richmond, Newcastle United, Hexham, Wearside and Whitley Bay all marking the occasion with events this season.
Founded in 1892, events have already began at Richmond where captains – club captain Steve Willis, ladies captain Barbara Willis, seniors’ captain Chris Lamb and juniors’ captain Ryan Campbell – hosted the annual Captains’ Drive In in Victorian attire. Meanwhile, events are planned at Newcastle United, Hexham, Wearside and Whitley Bay – which has been undergoing major investment as we found out on page 26 – throughout coming months.
