Our five players to watch at Close House
Sergio Garcia
Professional wins: 31
The 2017 Masters champion will headline the field for the British Masters following his maiden major victory at Augusta National in April. The 37-year-old Spaniard has been one of Europe’s leading lights for nearly 20 years and has 31 professional wins to his name. He has also been part of six Ryder Cups, winning four times with Europe while earning 18 points.
Alex Noren
Professional wins: 10
The defending British Masters champion will return to England full of confidence following his win at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth earlier this season.
Chris Paisley
Professional wins: 1
The local favourite will be able to walk to Close House from his family home in Stocksfield and will be looking for a good finish after securing his European Tour card for a fourth year.
Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston
Professional wins: 4
One of golf’s most recognisable faces (and beards) Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston is among the game’s most likeable characters. He proved he could match world-class golf with having a good time when he won the Real Club Valderrama Open de España in 2016.
Matthew Fitzpatrick
Professional wins: 3
The 2015 British Masters champion will be hoping to add to his success at Woburn by securing a second win on home soil.
