Whitburn Golf Club raised more than £1,000 for charity as part of its first captains’ drive in.
The first event of its kind at the club welcomed more than 150 members to watch Bronagh Hanley (ladies captain), Henry Smith (junior captain), Chris Bonar (seniors captain) and club captain Tony Jager hit tee shots and raise money for Tony’s chosen charity – Prostate Cancer UK.
Henry stole the show with his drive of 233 yards, followed by Chris’ 206-yard effort. Bronagh meanwhile found the middle of the fairway, and Tony drove it 187 yards.
A total of £630 was raised through a raffle, and this was added to £555 from members guessing how far the drives would go.
Meanwhile, following the extensive work carried out on the golf course, Whitburn is set to host two major events in 2025 – with the final of the Durham and Northumberland Inter-County Foursomes and Dixon Cup heading to the club this season.
