Rob Rinder at Keighley

TV star Rob Rinder supports Keighley Golf Club charity fundraiser

Rob Rinder MBE visited Keighley Golf Club on January 18 to support the lady captain’s chosen charity for 2026 – attracting an audience of more than 120 people and raising more than £3,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The visit was organised by captain Bea Hopwood – whose late husband, Stephen, was a friend of barrister and TV judge Rob and worked with him on a lengthy and complex legal case in the Caribbean.

“Unsurprisingly, tickets sold out quickly and when Rob arrived from London bang on time for a 1pm start, there was an enthusiastic welcome from the members and guests at the club,” said Bea.

“For over an hour-and-a-half Rob provided funny, thought-provoking and sometimes quite emotional answers to questions. As expected with a career that starts as a defence barrister and then moves into television, there were plenty of entertaining stories covering BBC shows Amazing Hotels, Strictly Come Dancing and The Apprentice as well as breakfast TV and his bromance with Rylan Clark.

“The audience was also moved by Rob’s contemplative thoughts on The Holocaust and the importance of not forgetting how it started.”

The event also included a raffle, and cakes and fizz organised by members, and it was supported by Andy Wilson from Yorkshire Cancer Research.

“The afternoon with Rob was a great success, and another event in Keighley Golf Club’s long and proud history of supporting local and national charities,” added Bea.

“Yorkshire is one of the regions hardest hit by cancer and the funds raised will help Yorkshire Cancer Research continue to find new cures and bring them to people across the county.”

Yorkshire Cancer Research has been funding cancer research and saving lives for more than 100 years. Since its foundation in 1925, the charity has united with researchers, cancer experts and people in Yorkshire to bring life-saving breakthroughs, discoveries and progress in cancer research to the region.
