Vokey WedgeWorks has added to its lineup of lob wedges – bringing the latest Vokey wedge technology to an even wider range of sole grinds.
In addition to the six Vokey SM11 in-line grinds and industry-leading number of loft, bounce and grind configurations (27), golfers now have access to five additional lob wedge grinds – L, A, K*, A+ and V. The 62M also joins WedgeWorks for players seeking more loft in Master Craftsman Bob Vokey’s favourite sole grind.
“Having more grind options just gives us more tools to work with, whether it’s with tour players or dedicated amateurs,” said Vokey tour rep Aaron Dill. “When a player gets their hands on the right grind, everything seems to click into place. The WedgeWorks lineup gives us the chance to find that optimal fit across even more playing styles and delivery patterns.”
Each new WedgeWorks lob wedge (SRP £219) is offered in the Raw finish, while WedgeWorks SureFit fitting heads are available at selected Titleist fitting locations.
The L is a narrow-soled, low-bounce grind with heel, toe and trailing edge relief. Its sole width fits between the slightly narrower T Grind and the slightly wider M Grind. It is well-suited for golfers playing off firm to neutral turf conditions. Compared to other low-bounce options in the Vokey lineup, the L Grind offers slightly more protection from excessive digging.
The A Grind originated from conversations between Aaron and Geoff Ogilvy, who was looking for a wedge that would perform well on the firm conditions commonly found in Australia. Aaron modified his L Grind, smoothing out the ribbon, or grind lines, to create the A Grind. This resulted in a sole that moves through the turf with very little resistance, ideal for players looking to slide the wedge under the ball in firm, tight conditions.
One of the most popular lob wedge grinds on the PGA Tour, the K* features a low-bounce sole that originates from the .06K Grind. Instead of the full, smooth sole of the K, the K* features a steeper pre-wear on the leading edge as well as heel, toe and trailing edge relief. The pre-wear helps resist excessive digging on square-faced shots, while the heel, toe and trailing edge relief adds greenside versatility when the face is opened. Like all K Grind variations, K* has a wide sole that excels out of bunkers.
The A+ Grind is a mid-bounce wedge that originated from removing the grind lines from an M Grind, the same modification that turns an L Grind into an A. Following this change, the A+ moves faster through the turf than its related M Grind, but it features more bounce and a wider sole than the A. This helps the A+ Grind excel in firm to neutral conditions.
The V Grind is a mid-to-high-bounce wedge that features a forward section of increased bounce for forgiveness on square-faced shots along with heel, toe and trailing edge relief for enhanced versatility on open-faced shots. It excels in neutral to soft conditions.
The M Grind, available in 58- and 60-degree lofts in the SM11 lineup, is Bob Vokey’s favourite grind. It is a mid-bounce grind that is exceptionally versatile, with a sole shape that excels across a variety of conditions. The 62-degree M Grind offers more loft for players looking to elevate and stop the golf ball quickly from shorter distances.
Each new WedgeWorks offering shares the same technology debuted in SM11 – from precise and progressive centre of gravity positioning to directional face texture and increased groove volume.
