Special focus – Rooms with a view

A magnificent hotel set high over the Longsands and North Sea – the Tynemouth Castle Inn is a perfect spot for travelling golfers

The inn collection group is renowned for its pubs with rooms across the country and at The Tynemouth Castle Inn you get to combine the scale of a large hotel with the great service, food and drink which makes the group so successful.

Set on the North Tyneside coast above Tynemouth’s Longsands, the inn underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment and extension before reopening in November 2023.

Now home to 72 bedrooms, many of them with incredible views of the beach and North Sea, there’s a lot for golfers to like here – starting with the food and drink offering.

Despite its vast size, the bar area remains welcoming and cozy, with spaces for large and small groups to gather, share stories, and relax after a round.

Golfers will enjoy the high-quality buffet breakfast, which is available from 7.30am every day. When you return in the evening, the seasonal menu is filled with hearty food. Expect game in the autumn and winter – including a fantastic venison burger – along with pies, steaks from the grill, fresh pizzas, and lighter options for the summer months. There’s also fabulous fish and chips available at Oswin’s, and great ice cream in loads of flavours at Cones.

The inn also delivers on the accommodation side – with modern twin and double en-suite rooms providing plenty of space for you and your gear. Those who want to get the best views on the top floor don’t need to worry – there’s a lift! There’s also free wi-fi and lots of free on-site parking too (just register your car when you check-in). There’s easy access to all the bedrooms from the car park with no need to carry your gear through the bar – and you can get a dog-friendly room on the ground floor.

There’s great golf to be found nearby too – with Whitley Bay Golf Club just along the coast, and Tynemouth Golf Club less than five minutes’ drive away. With easy access to the A19 and other major roads, you can explore the best layouts in Northumberland too – from the linksland further up to the coast to the parkland tests of the Tyne Valley.

For those combining their stay with other activities, this is a spectacular coastline to explore with long beaches and secluded bays, giant castles, and busy towns with great food, drink and shopping.

Dinner, bed and breakfast packages start from £99 per person. Golf Inn Getaways are also available for groups of four or more. To book your stay, visit www.inncollectiongroup.com/tynemouth-castle-inn
