North East-based Inn Collection Group is renowned for its pubs with rooms around the UK – from country locations filled with local charm to grand venues. Having stayed with them around the country over the last 12 months, here’s our favourites…
The Lindisfarne Inn
The north Northumberland coast is a marvellous place for golf – from the spectacular links of Goswick to the coastal classics of Dunstanburgh Castle, Bamburgh Castle and Seahouses. Having tackled the links, The Lindisfarne Inn – just off the A1 at the junction for the Holy Island causeway – is the perfect place to unwind. A traditional Northumberland pub, the hearty breakfast and evening menu – particularly the pies – are highly recommended. There’s 23 en-suite rooms, each with their own front door and access to the car park – an underrated luxury when moving around with golf clubs.
Offshore
The west coast of England is blessed with fantastic ground for golf too – from the Open rota courses of Royal Lytham & St Annes and Royal Birkdale to the likes of Southport & Ainsdale and Hillside. For those travelling to test their skills, Offshore in Lytham St Annes is the ideal spot to recuperate. The inn sits between the links of Lytham & St Annes, host of 11 Opens, and the Irish Sea. Site of the former Carlton and Lindum hotels, it has been refurbished by Inn Collection Group – with the team bringing their tried and tested pub with rooms concept to the spectacular location on the promenade. There are 98 rooms here, including many with sea views and 19 single occupancy rooms with en-suites – perfect for groups with light, or noisy, sleepers.
The Pheasant Inn
Cumbria has so many stunning locations for golf courses – from the renowned coastal powerhouse of Silloth on Solway to the inland layouts with their spectacular backdrops of lakes and mountains. For those staying over, The Pheasant Inn is a stone’s throw from Bassenthwaite Lake and the A66. A charming 17th Century coaching inn, it was renovated by Inn Collection Group in 2021 and retains all of the charm acquired over hundreds of years. Pub classics and fresh Cumbrian produce headline the menu – and you’ll find 26 spacious en-suite rooms within the inn and its cottage, each with easy access to the free on-site car park.
Seaton Lane Inn
County Durham has a lot to offer travelling golfers. From the courses closest to the coastline – like Seaham, South Shields and Whitburn – to wonderful parkland layouts further inland. The Inn Collection Group’s Seaton Lane Inn combines a quiet setting in the village of Seaton with incredibly easy access to the A19. A charming village pub with rooms, the inn has 24 modern twin and double en-suite rooms, each providing plenty of space for golfers and their gear.
Tynemouth Castle Inn
Combining the scale of a large hotel with the great service, food and drink of a pub with rooms, the Tynemouth Castle Inn is set on the North Tyneside coast above Tynemouth’s Longsands. Home to 72 bedrooms, many of them with incredible views of the North Sea, there’s a lot for golfers to like here – from the high-quality buffet breakfast to the seasonal menu filled with hearty pub food. There’s also fabulous fish and chips available at Oswin’s, and great ice cream at Cones. Modern twin and double en-suite rooms provide plenty of space, and those who want to get the best views on the top floor don’t need to worry – there’s a lift! There’s also lots of free on-site parking, and you can get a dog-friendly room on the ground floor. There’s great golf to be found nearby as well – with Whitley Bay and Tynemouth golf clubs just minutes away, along with many more top inland and coastal courses.
