South Moor launches Performance Centre

South Moor has launched its new Golf Performance Centre, which is being led by the club’s new director of golf, Steven McDonnell.

The centre, which has been created in the former pro shop space, features state-of-the-art TrackMan technology along with a 25sqm custom putting area designed by Wellputt.

PGA advanced coach Steven (pictured above), who has returned to the North East having been head professional at Oakdale, will be delivering indoor coaching in the centre as well as outside on the club’s extensive practice areas – including the artificial chipping green and 12-bay driving range.

“It’s nice to be back in the North East and have the opportunity to develop something very new and exciting at South Moor,” said Steven. “I loved my time at Oakdale and will miss the club and its members a great deal, but when the chance came to create something new in Durham, I had to take the opportunity. The Performance Centre and new role have been about a year in the making, so it’s great to have it open to members and the public, and to be in the space delivering coaching just as the season gets underway.

“With the new facility, along with those the club already has in place and a great golf course, there’s so much we can offer golfers at South Moor. That journey starts with coaching and developing new golfers – something I’m passionate about. It also includes working with the club in my wider role while I complete my director of golf qualification with The PGA as we aim to get more people playing the golf course and taking in everything the club has to offer.

“We’ve made a great start and I’m excited to see how things develop this season.”
