Richard Aisbitt wins Durham Order of Merit

Brancepeth Castle-based Richard Aisbitt has won the season-long Durham Order of Merit.

Richard won the points race – which incorporates the Durham matchplay and strokeplay championships as well as scratch events across the county – after tying for top spot in the Bishop Auckland Bowl – the 150 points for that performance proving enough to secure the title ahead of Consett’s John Kennedy.

The Bishop title is set to be decided in October, when Richard and City of Newcastle-based Andrew Minnikin face off in an 18-hole playoff after both players posted 36-hole totals of three under-par.

Meanwhile, South Shields’ Martin McCririck finished third in the season-long points race, with Darlington’s Callum Moncur in fourth-place.
