A group of the region’s leading amateurs and professionals are heading to Final Qualifying for the Open Championship at Hoylake after progressing through Regional Qualifying.
At Goswick, Rockliffe-based amateur Michael Henson led the scoring with a four under-par round of 68. Morpeth-based professional David Clark also made it through to the next stage once again with a three under-par round. They’ll be joined by Hexham’s Morgan Blythe and Eaglescliffe’s Ryan Riley – both of whom secured spots through a five-player playoff after posting one under-par scores.
At Alwoodley, Malton & Norton’s David Hague shot a superb six under-par 65 to lead the scoring by five shots. Yorkshireman Nick McCarthy was also among the eight players to progress.
Final Qualifying takes place at four venues – Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports, Royal Porthcawl and West Lancashire – on July 4, with the 117 regional qualifiers joined by players exempt into the 36-hole stage to compete for a place in the Open.
