Ready to go

From your first tee shot to your final putt, your starting position is fundamental to producing consistent results, and finding a routine which allows you to repeat your setup position is really important.

When practising, use an alignment stick – or even better two sticks in a cross or T shape – to ensure your feet position is consistent each time you setup to the golf ball. Using a mirror or camera to check your club and body are starting from the same point each time you prepare to hit the ball is also a really useful habit to get into, and helps maintain a level of consistency.

Having created a repeatable setup, it’s far easier to calibrate what you’re doing each practice session or from round to round. Starting from a consistent position, you can also work on mechanics and the movements in your golf swing while knowing the progress you make is down to those changes and not small tweaks in your setup.
