Ramside Hall to create new multi-million-pound golf facility

Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa is investing more than £6million to create spectacular new golf facilities which will add to the Prince Bishops and Cathedral courses at the resort.

The new golf academy, leisure and entertainment hub will include a 43-bay Toptracer driving range, a six-lane indoor bowling alley, and a sports bar with interactive electronic games such as darts and shuffleboards, pool tables and large screens which will show major sports events. The academy will also include new short game practice space and coaching areas, a retail outlet, and a 120-seat function room.

The phased opening of the development will take place between March and August.

Ramside owner John Adamson said: “These new facilities will have something for everyone, not just golfers. The bowling alley and sports bar with the electronic games will hopefully attract people who just want to enjoy some fun activities. At the same time, the golf academy will welcome anyone who is interested in learning the game – or who wants to improve their existing game – with its state-of-the-art facilities.”

As well as the changes to the academy and driving range, Ramside has also outlined extensive upgrades to the Prince Bishops and Cathedral courses.

On the Cathedral Course, which opened in 2014, there will be new par four seventh and par three eighth holes – with extensive work being carried out to reprofile the current par five seventh hole.

The current 17th and 18th holes will also be redesigned to create a dramatic new final hole with a greensite protected by a large lake and set in the shadow of the new clubhouse.

As part of these changes, which are set to take place in the second half of 2025, a new floodlit short game area is also being created.

Meanwhile, the Prince Bishops course has undergone extensive work over the winter months, with several bunkers created as other obsolete traps have been removed. Tee extensions, tree removal and drainage works have also been carried out by the team.

“It’s a really exciting time to be part of the team delivering so many projects,” said course manager Shaun Embleton. “The new clubhouse and range facilities will undoubtedly raise the Ramside Hall offering to another level. As part of the programme to create an unrivalled golf destination, we have ambitious plans for both golf courses. Having invested heavily in our team – which has grown to 18 – as well as our equipment, and made a great start in the last few months, we’re excited to be at the forefront of delivering the next chapter of the Ramside story,” added Shaun, who is working with Jonathan Gaunt, the designer behind both layouts at Ramside, as well as head greenkeepers Jonathan Flowers and Nicholas Mansell on the changes.
