Phil Ridden successfully defends the Northumberland County Strokeplay Championship

City of Newcastle’s Phil Ridden put together a four-round total of 13 under-par at his home club to successfully defend the Northumberland County Strokeplay Championship trophy.

Phil shot rounds of 68, 67, 68 and 72 – including a birdie on the 72nd hole – to win the event for the fourth time following his victories in 2010, 2019 and 2025.

Harrison Sewell (The Northumberland) finished second for a third consecutive year on 12 under-par, alongside county captain Andrew Minnikin (City of Newcastle).

County champion Ben Brown (Backworth) finished fourth on nine under-par, as Angus Buchanan (Slaley Hall) was fifth with a one under-par total. City of Newcastle-based Mike O’Hara won the nett trophy with a level-par score of 288.

Meanwhile, Charlie McKenna (City of Newcastle) was crowned junior county champion after leading the players under the age of 18 on day one with a two-round score of 145.
