What have you been up to?
“I’ve been back in the North East since the start of the 2019 season and I’m really enjoying being part of the team at Ramside. Coaching is my passion and coming back to the UK has been a big change – it’s not like I’ve moved down the road and brought a load of players with me. But, I’m working with some good members and players already, and I’ve got the teams from Durham Sixth Form and Durham University to work with, which is a fantastic opportunity. I’ve also got around 50 juniors working across seven weekly sessions and I want to grow that into a structured junior academy with a progression route for players of all ages and abilities. Even though I’ve only been back a few months, there’s been plenty to crack on with.”
How did you get into the game?
“I started out at Parklands, taking part in the Saturday morning junior coaching sessions and walking around the course with my dad at Bedlington Golf Club. From there, I joined City of Newcastle aged 12 and went from there. The junior section at the City was so strong back then and we all wanted to beat one another.”
What does the future hold?
“I want to grow the list of players I’m working with at Ramside Hall – ranging from the club players to elite players, and the guys from the college teams. I also want to take what I’ve learned in the Middle East and apply it to a junior system at Ramside, creating a system which works for young golfers at every level as they get older, grow in confidence and improve as golfers. There’s a lot to look forward to.”
