Ollie Scott joins the incredibly strong list of players who have lifted the Yorkshire Boys Amateur Championship trophy as he completes a four-shot victory at Rotherham Golf Club
Middlesbrough Golf Club’s Ollie Scott topped the leaderboard in the Yorkshire Boys Amateur Championship at Rotherham Golf Club.
Ollie led the field of 72 players aged 12-18 with a one under-par total following rounds of 70 and 69 as Teesside’s Tom Hartshorne finished second on three over-par, and Garforth’s Sam Mcintyre was third on six over-par as he beat Ilkley-based Harry Richmond on countback.
“It’s a great feeling to be the Yorkshire Boys champion,” said Ollie. “It’s the biggest win of my golf career so far and it was good to put all the skills I’ve developed in the last couple of years together on the course.
“This was my first time competing at Rotherham, but I was lucky to have the chance to play it with the squad coached by James Freeman earlier this year, and that really helped a lot. His course knowledge helped me build a solid plan and that definitely gave me the best chance to shoot the two scores I did.
“It’s a tricky course to get around and I set the goal of playing boring golf all day – hitting fairways and greens, and not taking on risky shots which can lead to big numbers around there. I did that well all day [making just four bogeys and one double-bogey in 36 holes, along with seven birdies].”
With the win, Ollie joins a list of past champions which includes Alex Fitzpatrick (2017), Matt Fitzpatrick (2011), Danny Willett (2005), John Parry (2004) and Simon Dyson (1995).
“I’m very proud to join an amazing list of players on the trophy,” added Ollie. “It’s amazing when you look at the names on there.
“I’m looking forward to the rest of the summer, and I’ve got some national events coming up as well as the County Finals with the Yorkshire Boys’ team. I’m also excited to now be heading to Woodhall Spa for the County Champion of Champions later in the year.”
Ollie will go on to represent Yorkshire in the Boys County Champion of Champions at Woodhall Spa on September 12-13.
