Northern Golfer Champions of Champions crowned at Longhirst

Three new Northern Golfer Champions of Champions were crowned at Longhirst Hall – each topping leaderboards featuring some of the region’s best players.

In the men’s event, The Northumberland’s Harrison Sewell led the way with a five under-par round of 68. Going one better than he did a day earlier in the Junior County Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa – where he missed out on a place in a playoff by a single shot – Harrison raced to five under-par through eight holes before closing out his round to earn a one-shot win over Westerhope’s Cameron Thoburn. Dunstanburgh Castle’s Martin Carss took third place on one under-par as Kendal’s Thomas Robinson won the best nett prize (two under-par).

In the junior event, Tynemouth’s Freddie McKenna led the way with a two under-par score as Consett’s Luke Bonser claimed second place. Hexham’s Nairn Barclay was third, while Allendale’s Kieran Edwards shot the best nett score of the day (six under-par).

Meanwhile, Cumbria’s county champion Abby Roper added to her success this season with victory in the ladies’ event. Seascale-based Abby led the field with a two under-par round of 71 – and collected the nett prize on the same score – as Bishop Auckland-based England international Jess Hall finished second and Gosforth Park Ladies’ Libby Bell was third.
