The Oct/Nov 2026 edition of Northern Golfer is available in golf clubs and retailers across the region now
The 2026 season is just about done, and what a golfing year it has been for our region.
The Oct/Nov edition of Northern Golfer is traditionally one in which we roundup a lot of success stories – from the culmination of season-long leagues and orders of merit to some of the biggest amateur and professional events which bookend the golfing year.
The Northern Golfer Champion of Champions events for men, women and juniors at The Longhirst Club have become key parts of the closing stretch, and this year’s events gave us three fantastic winners in Abby Roper, Oscar Hancill and Alfie Dacey. All three were worthy winners, though a special mention must go to Abby, who won the women’s event for the second time having travelled over from Seascale in Cumbria while five months pregnant.
We’ve also caught up with John Harrison for this edition as he achieved the incredible feat of winning at least one professional event for the 50th consecutive year.
We’ve taken on the challenge of Houghton-le-Spring Golf Club for our Course Profile too, and put together Special Focus features on The Cairndale Hotel & Spa in Dumfries, some of our favourite places to play in Cumbria, and our pick of the region’s top driving ranges and indoor golf studios.
Our columnists – including new On Course columnist John Scurfield from Longhirst – are in great form as well.
The Teeing Off and Gear pages are packed once again, and our friends at The Cairndale, Ponteland and Wynyard have provided some fantastic prizes for our competitions.
