Clubs from across the north took part in the finals days for the North East Rabbits Golf Association’s Rabbits and Inter leagues – with the team from Drax successfully defending the Rabbits title as Masham’s team successfully defended the Inter trophy.
In the Rabbits’ (handicap index 15.0-28.0) finals day at Barnard Castle, Drax took home the team trophy, beating Bishop Auckland’s team by just three stableford points in the best seven from eight format.
In the individual event at Barnard Castle – which sees the leading points scorer for each of the league’s clubs compete for the title on finals day – Drax’s Stuart Kerr led the field with 38 points as Geoff Chamberlain (Cave Castle) finished second with 35 points.
In the Inter (handicap index 7.0-14.9) finals day at Romanby, the Masham team came out on top once again, beating Drax by three points as their seven top scorers from the team of eight amassed 260 points.
In the individual trophy at Romanby – which mirrors the format of the Rabbits’ finals day – John Mason (Crook) led the field with 46 stableford points as Michael Coates (Malton & Norton) finished second with 39 points.
