Neil Gascoigne completed a grand slam of UK hickory championships as he won the scratch title at the English Hickory Championship at Rye Golf Club.
Neil, who is a member of Newcastle United Golf Club, led the field in the Tony Hawkins Scratch Trophy with a gross score of 80 on the south coast.
His first win in the English event adds to his victories in the Welsh Hickory Championship in 2022 and 2023, and his hat-trick of Scottish Championship wins in 2020-22.
“I’ve wanted to complete the set for a long time, and to finally win the English title is a great feeling,” said Neil, who holds a handicap index of 1.9 with modern equipment.
“Rye is a stunning golf course, and it’s particularly tough with hickory-shafted clubs, so to win the title there makes it even more special.
“The hickory tournaments are tremendous fun – with a passionate, international group of players – and to win one of our majors for the first time since 2023 feels great. I’m looking forward to more events next season, and returning to Rye to defend this one will definitely be a highlight.”
