Malton & Norton Golf Club celebrated double success in the North East Rabbits Golf Association’s Rabbits and Inter leagues – winning Finals Days at Romanby and Ramside Hall respectively.
One of the association’s most successful clubs, Malton & Norton successfully defended the title they won in 2022 – lifting the Rabbits trophy for a fourth time following their wins in 2015 and 2017. The Malton & Norton team won by the narrowest of margins – beating Drax by a single point as their seven top scorers from the team of eight amassed 240 points.
In the Individual Trophy at Romanby – which sees the leading points scorer for each of the league’s clubs compete for the title on Finals Day – Kirkbymoorside’s Thomas Cass led the field with 41 points as Bishop Auckland’s James Tray finished second on countback.
Malton’s Inter team also added a fourth title to their record – following up their hat-trick of victories from 2017-19. On an incredibly competitive day in tough conditions at Ramside Hall, three teams finished on the same seven-player score (188), which led to the title being decided on the eighth player score – Malton winning by six points. The Bishop Auckland team finished runners-up and Thirsk & Northallerton were third – both teams finishing with the same eight-player total with their final positions decided by the highest individual score from each team.
The Individual title at Ramside went to Easingwold’s Robert Holliday with 35 points as Catterick’s Alan Richardson finished runner-up with 32 points.
