Maggie Whitehead joins University of Virginia

England international Maggie Whitehead will continue her golf career at the University of Virginia after committing to join the US college’s women’s golf team in 2024.

Ramside and Close House member Maggie is currently ranked 75th in the European Golf Rankings and is 37th in the European under-18 rankings.

Virginia women’s golf coach Ria Scott said: “Maggie has an energy that enhances the confidence of any team setting she steps into. She has so much experience in international events and has shown that she is an absolute force in team and matchplay. We can’t wait to see how Maggie elevates her game and our team.”

In 2023 Maggie had four top-20 finishes, including ninth place finishes at the R&A Girls Amateur Championship and the English Girls’ Open. She was also 11th at the Annika Invitational Europe, and 20th at the Spanish International Ladies Amateur.

This year she was also part of the winning England team at The R&A Girls’ & Boys’ Home Internationals, and represented England at the European Girls’ Team Championship.
