Home win for Andrew Griffiths in North & South

Close House’s Andrew Griffiths made home advantage count as he went one better than his 2023 runner-up finish and topped the leaderboard in the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs’ North & South Trophy.

Andrew led the field in the county’s first 36-hole singles event of the season with rounds of 71 and 65 on the Filly Course. His four under-par total gave him a one-shot win over City of Newcastle’s Andrew Minnikin as Goswick-based Daniel Bullen and Newcastle United’s Michael Burrow finished in a tie for third place on two under-par.

The nett prize went to Morpeth’s Charlie Thomson, who had rounds of 78 (72) and 72 (66) to beat Slaley Hall’s Angus Buchanan on countback.

Next up in Northumberland is the Junior Teams Championship at Bedlingtonshire before the County Strokeplay Championship takes place at The Northumberland on June 8-9.
