Eight-year-old Bridlington Belvedere Golf Club member George Rowell has won his second Wee Wonders British & Ireland Championship and earned another trip to the World Finals at Pinehurst in the US next year.
George finished runner-up at last year’s World Finals, having won his first Wee Wonders title in 2024 and tied for the lead in 2025, finishing second on countback in the boys’ 7/8 category.
This year’s championship started with a little drama for George, who had a one-shot penalty at the par three second hole at Gullane No.3. Having made a double-bogey at the third, he rallied with a par at the fourth and back-to-back birdies at the fifth and sixth holes to post a one-over par total for the nine holes – one shot behind the leader, Louis Gavin from Northern Ireland.
On the final day, playing in strong winds and heavy rain on the East Lothian coast, George opened his round with a birdie before making pars at the second and third holes to be tied with Louis. Both players then bogeyed the difficult fourth hole, before George made birdie at the par five fifth to earn a two-shot lead over Louis. A par, a birdie, and two closing pars followed as George posted a final-round score of 33, two under-par, to win by three shots.
During George’s winner’s speech, he made light of the first-round, saying he’d had “more penalties than Ronaldo.” He also thanked the Wee Wonders organisers, tournament sponsors Callaway, and all the players for another fantastic championship.
With his second win in the event, George is now just one win behind record holder Aaron Rai, who won three Wee Wonders titles.
