Club champions crowned across the region

Men’s, ladies and junior club champions have been crowned across the region – each earning an invitation to the Northern Golfer Champion of Champions events at Longhirst Hall on Sunday September 17

Men’s champions

Allendale Golf Club – Richie Rutherford

Alnwick Castle Golf Club – Joe Henderson won the title for a second year in a row with a two-round total of 141

Bellingham Golf Club – Ben King posted rounds of 68 and 69 for an impressive nine-shot margin of victory

Bedlingtonshire Golf Club – 18-year-old Ben Brown won his first title with a two-round total of 150 for a two-shot margin of victory

Blackwell Grange Golf Club – Adam Rochester

Brancepeth Castle Golf Club – Richard Aisbitt lifted the trophy once again with a 143 total, beating Wayne Melles by a single shot

Castle Eden Golf Club – Stuart Brown lifted the trophy for the 10th time following rounds of 69 and 67

Chester-le-Street Golf Club – Brian Nelson

Close House – Lee Cattermole won his first championship

Consett & District Golf Club – John Kennedy won his 12th title with rounds of 68 and 70, 33 years after his first in 1990

Goswick Golf Club – Daniel Bullen won his third title in a row with a nine under-par total (66-69) for a seven-shot margin of victory

Hobson Golf Club – David Turner won the title, going four under-par in the four-hole playoff after tying with Darren Swann after 36 holes

Houghton-le-Spring Golf Club – Ian Baxter topped the leaderboard with a two-round total of 148

Magdalene Fields Golf Club – Kurt Yule

Newcastle United Golf Club – Club captain John Simmons came through an 18-hole playoff to lift the trophy for the first time

Ponteland Golf Club – Ben Sayer came through a five-hole playoff with Nik Jones to win the championship for the first time

Ramside Golf Club – Lewis Reay

Roseberry Grange Golf Club – Luke Stone successfully defended the title with rounds of 76 and 77 for a one-shot win

Seaham Golf Club – Craig Walton

Seahouses Golf Club – John Hogg lifted the trophy for the fourth time

South Shields Golf Club – Ben Willis lifted the trophy with rounds of 74 and 70

Stocksfield Golf Club – James Cram won his first championship with a three under-par total

Teesside Golf Club – Darren Rayner lifted the trophy with rounds of 70 and 73 for a total of 143

Tyneside Golf Club – Kris Rae won his fourth title in a row with rounds of 69 and 70 for a 139 total

Wearside Golf Club – Howard Walton won the event for the 11th time with rounds of 76 and 70

Whitburn Golf Club – Stephen Tooley led the way with rounds of 74 and 76

Wynyard Golf Club – Jack Burton prevailed with rounds of 65 and 72


Ladies champions

Bedlingtonshire Golf Club – Julie Sampson

Blackwell Grange Golf Club – Anne Wraith

Chester-le-Street Golf Club – Lucy Nimmo

Close House – Claire Brown led the field for the seventh time

Consett & District Golf Club – 15-year-old Jessica Dorritt won the title for the first time

Goswick Golf Club – Sandra McGonigle

Houghton-le-Spring Golf Club – Emily Baxter led the field with a two-round total of 152

Magdalene Fields Golf Club – Marion Black

Middlesbrough Golf Club – Emily Garbutt won the event’s final for the third consecutive year

Seahouses Golf Club – Anne Locke lifted the trophy for the 25th time

Seaton Carew Golf Club – Deb Frankland

Tyneside Golf Club – Amy Buchan overcame Vicki Thompson 3&2 in the event’s final


Junior champions

Bedlingtonshire Golf Club – Nathan Buchanan

Billingham Golf Club – Sam Griffiths

Chester-le-Street Golf Club – James Lusk

Cleveland Golf Club – Ollie Scott led the way with a round of 79

Consett & District Golf Club – Luke Bonser

Ponteland Golf Club – Joe Alderson led the field by seven shots with rounds of 79 and 74 to win the gross title, while also winning the nett title by a single shot
