Charlotte Naughton and Lily Hirst represent GB&I at the Curtis Cup

Northumberland’s Charlotte Naughton and Yorkshire’s Lily Hirst represented Great Britian & Ireland in the 44th Curtis Cup at Bel-Air Country Club.

GB&I faced an incredibly strong US team in California, and the American side reclaimed the trophy at the end of three days of matches with a 13-7 win.

GB&I gave the Americans a tough task to win the trophy in the eight singles matches on Sunday, and at one point the visitors looked as if they might make a miraculous comeback. In the end, the US team won six of the singles matches, with Charlotte losing 2&1 to Farah O’Keefe as Lily was beaten 1dn by Kary Hollenbaugh. Meanwhile, Charlotte, the youngest member of the GB&I team, earned a memorable point alongside Davina Xanh in Saturday’s foursomes session.

The USA leads the biennial series with 32 wins, nine loses, and three ties.
