Ben Brown lifted the Northumberland County Championship trophy for a second year in a row following victory in the event’s final at Morpeth Golf Club.
Ben, who is based at Backworth Golf Club and is also a member of Bedlingtonshire, beat Morpeth’s Cameron Twynholm – the 2024 champion – 3&1 after a week of superb golf.
In the 36-hole final, the players broke for lunch tied after 18 holes. Ben then took charge in the afternoon – moving to 4up after 27 holes. Cameron fought back to be just 1dn with four holes to play, before Ben drove into the middle of the 15th green and made his two-putt birdie to get back to 2up. After the 16th was halved, Ben secured the 3&1 victory on the 17th.
Meanwhile, 2025 finalist Harrison Sewell and this year’s Northumberland County Strokeplay champion Phil Ridden made the semi-finals. Harrison also won The Renwick Medal, which is presented to the leading player in the 36-hole strokeplay qualifying, after shooting rounds of 68 and 69 for a five under-par total.
