Americans win R&A Senior Amateur titles as Emma Brown finishes second

Lara Tennant and Bryan Hoops enjoyed double success for the United States of America at The R&A Women’s Senior Amateur and Senior Amateur championships at Frilford Heath – as Malton & Norton’s Emma Brown finished second in the women’s event, and defending champion John Kennedy (Consett & District) finished sixth in the men’ event.

Lara won her second Women’s Senior Amateur title as she outlasted Emma in a thrilling encounter in Oxfordshire. Meanwhile, Bryan won the men’s Senior Amateur on his second appearance.

Lara, who is ranked 357th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), shot a closing two under-par 72 over Frilford’s Red Course for a two over-par total, beating Emma by five shots. Emma’s 2002 Curtis Cup teammate Kerry Smith finished a shot further back in third place.

Bryan won the men’s title with a closing six under-par round of 66 to finish on 10 under-par, six shots clear of England’s John Kemp and Richard Heath from Australia. John Kennedy was part of a three-player tie for sixth place as she shot one over-par for four rounds.
