In the Northern Golfer team’s experience, playing in rain requires one thing – the right gear. A big umbrella, dry towels and rain gloves are essential, as is clothing which suits the conditions – from summer showers to colder days in steady downpours.
We’ve been lucky (or unlucky, depending on your outlook) to put Swedish brand Abacus Sportswear’s Bounce rainwear collection through its paces in the early part of the season, and we’ve loved the range of options and the performance of the StretchDry technology.
While waterproofs can prove difficult to play in, the Bounce Rainshirts and Hoodies have been superb. The four-way stretch waterproof fabric – which is made up of three bonded layers to deliver breathability and wind and water protection – makes moving and playing proper golf in the rain easy. The range, available for men and women, also features full rain suits, trousers and shorts.
Meanwhile, Abacus has also got the bases covered with its line-up of performance-driven trousers – including the Cleek Flex Trousers, which are stretchy, lightweight and breathable; the Mellion Stretch Trousers, which are made of a soft four-way stretch material; and the Druids Softshell Windvent Trousers, which are stretchable and offer protection from wind and rain.
