Abbeydale Golf Club celebrates year of success stories

The members of Abbeydale Golf Club have celebrated success stories for players based at the club throughout 2026.

The club hosted its first national event over three days in June – the English Senior Women’s Stroke Play Championship – which was won by defending champion and world number one Nadene Gole from the Victoria Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.

In August, Abbeydale-based Rebecca Hembrough captained the GB&I under-16 girls’ team against the Continent of Europe in the Junior Vagliano Trophy – which was narrowly won by Europe 9.5-8.5.

In September, Calum Davies won the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs’ Junior Match Play Championship at Lindrick – adding his name to the trophy alongside the likes of Matt Fitzpatrick and Jack Whaley.

Finally, in October, head teaching professional Gareth Davies represented GB&I for the second time in the PGA Cup, winning three of four matches alongside Rotherham’s James Freeman as GB&I won the event at the K Club with their biggest ever points total (16.5) and lifting the trophy for the first time since 2017.
