British winters are long, cold and wet…among other things. With that in mind, the promise of new waterproofs was the only thing which tempted us outside for another six months of winter league golf every Sunday mornings.
There are a lot of options on the market, from £500-plus suits which promise to keep you dry even when you’re in the bath afterwards, down to those shiny waterproofs the guys in the Tuesday morning sweep seem to have had since the 1970s (though we couldn’t buy those anywhere… not that we wanted to).
The perfect combination of quality and price, the latest ProQuip stormFORCE suit got our pick – and it’s proving an excellent choice. Two months into winter golf and the jacket and trousers have stood up to rain, snow, hail and mud without a missed step. Add into the mix a distinctive look (we’re not ones for black on black here at Northern Golfer), a quality soft-touch feel to the ultra-lightweight combo which keeps the noise down, a four-way stretch fabric to keep everything moving properly, and a lifetime waterproof guarantee and we’re going to be teeing it up in all weathers for years to come. Jackets available in black/red, storm grey/blue or ink/ lime – sizes S-XXXL. Matching trousers available in black or storm grey – sizes S-XXXL (27”-35” leg).
