The Whickham Golf Club team celebrated double success in the first season of the Durham Seniors Golf League.
The county-wide fourball betterball inter-club league competition, which featured 10 teams in two flights in its first season, was played from April to September. Whickham topped League A after eight matches to reach the final, with Seaham’s team topping League B. The Whickham team secured the Dunholm Trophy with a 17-7 win in the final, which was played over home and away legs.
Whickham also lifted The Dunholm Shield, presented to the winners of the league’s knockout competition, following a 5-1 victory over Seaham in the final at South Shields Golf Club.
This year’s competitions brought together teams from Beamish Park, Brancepeth Castle, Consett & District, George Washington, Ramside Hall, Ryton, Seaham, Tyneside, Wearside and Whickham golf clubs. Some 220 players represented their clubs, with handicap indexes ranging from scratch to 19.9.
