Swede success for Wrigley

Hartlepool’s Alex Wrigley wins Oakley event

A short trip to Sweden to caddy turned out to be another highlight in a what’s shaping up to be a great season for Hartlepool’s Alex Wrigley.

A EuroPro Tour regular, Wrigley made the trip across the North Sea to caddy for his girlfriend, Ladies European Tour player Johanna Gustavsson, and managed to turn a late entry into a regional event into a 36-hole total of 10 under-par and a five-shot victory at Kårsta Golf Club.

“I was out there caddying for Johanna and her coach managed to get me a late entry to the local PGA event sponsored by Oakley,” explained Alex. “I’ve played some good golf this season so I had a bit of confidence going in despite the short notice. I was coming off the back of couple of top 15s on the EuroPro and I’d had a good result in Ireland the week before so I was expecting to play good golf.

“To get a win over there feels great and is another highlight in what’s been a really good year so far,” added Alex.

At the time of going to print, Alex sits inside the top 60 of the Race to Desert Springs on the EuroPro Tour and is looking forward to making the trip to the Tour Championship in Spain later this year.

“I’ve been able to carry on that form to get some more good finishes in the EuroPro and PGA events and I’m looking forward to the last few events of the season, including Q School and the EuroPro Tour Championship,” he added.

“Let’s take it one shot at a time and see how far we go in the next few months.”
