Former Northumberland county champion Jack Hermeston has been appointed as a graduate assistant golf coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Jack, who represented the college golf team while studying for his degree in Business Finance, will work under head coach JW Wandenborn supporting the next crop of players.
A member of City of Newcastle Golf Club but now based in Kansas City, Jack said: “I’m really looking forward to getting going in my new role. It’s going to be different, being outside the ropes at tournaments and being the guy players go to when they need something, but it’s going to be interesting and I’m looking forward to learning a lot. The job will support me while studying for my masters, something I wanted to take on having spent the two years since finishing college working in corporate America. Hopefully I can play some more golf too while supporting coach and studying myself.
“I don’t know where I’ll go from here. I learned a lot working for two years and may well go back into it with my masters, though I’m open to seeing how the coaching side works out in these next couple of years. There are options and I’ll be well placed to make a decision once I’ve seen both sides out here.”
Jack’s college golf career included a team victory in the Western Athletic Conference Championship in his final year. He won the McGregor Trophy at South Moor in 2011 and featured in the England system before heading to the US to attend college.
